The World's First Organic Tartan

New Lanark Spinning Co. have launched the world’s first Organic Tartan certified by the Soil Association.

“The Organic Tartan” collection includes throws, bags, purses & cushions, all of which shall be available on our online shop, so keep checking back for new additions!

The colours of the tartan were inspired by the unique landscape which surrounds New Lanark, the blues & purples of the River Clyde and the bright greens & yellow of the foliage around the village.

The creation of the tartan has been entirely organic from sheep to finished product, with the Soil Association inspecting and certifying every stage to maintain GOTS high standards throughout all the processes.

“The Organic Tartan” has been made in the UK using 100% organic wool from HRH The Prince of Wales’s flock at Duchy Home Farm near Tetbury in Gloucestershire. The fleece was then scoured at Hawarth Scouring before being sent to New Lanark Mills to be blended, carded and spun into top quality yarn using traditional methods on historic machinery. The yarn was then dyed at Paint Box Textiles, Bradford. The tartan was designed and woven by Lochcarron of Scotland, and finally the tartan was finished by Schofield of Galashiels.
